Platypus Conservation Guidelines

This section provides ideas on how you can take positive action to help platypus populations living in both rural areas and urban environments.

Good Catchment Planning should take into account the needs of platypus.

This can ensure that issues of water quality are addressed, that appropriate vegetation is maintained/re-planted along the banks of rivers and creeks and that manmade structures and general stream improvement works are designed not to cause problems for platypus. Likewise, planning of work along waterways can be undertaken efficiently.

In addition, problems caused by angling and litter can be tackled positively.
